Crazy Faith Series "Jesus at the wheel"

Mathew 8:23-27
This could be the craziest thing of all, “put Jesus in the drivers seat of your life.
The drivers seat is the control seat, I rarely am in a vehicle and not driving and with my wife I always drive, maybe I am weird but I feel it is the my job to drive.

Open to Matt 8:23-27 the next crazy story

Vrs 23-25 A great storm arose and the disciples feared for their lives. This must have been a horrible storm, these guys were fishermen and used to storm coming in and out.
For them to panic like they did it must have been a big one.

Jesus must have been a pretty sound sleeper to sleep through this. So they woke Him up and asked Him to save them.

Vrs 26 “Why are you fearful?”
What are you fearful of?
People fear things like, death, heights, small spaces social situations, death of a loved one, illness. You name it there is a documented case of the fear of just about anything.

But many times common a that we all have is the unknown. Not knowing what will happen and if we will be taken care of.

The disciples were scared of what was going to happen to them. They we almost parallelized with fear. It was the unknown they were afraid of. What did they do? The turned to Jesus because the figured He could save them.
In life we all realize the death is inevitable and for many it is a fear, the unknown
Tertullian, third-century church father, speaking of death.
“It is a poor thing to fear that which is inevitable.”
Well we don’t have to fear death, Jesus can save us. Gospel
We can know it is paradise
Many times as believers even though we may not fear death we fear other things. Like…making big decisions, change, our finances, death of a loved one

Vrs 26 “you of little faith” Jesus is challenging their lack of faith, He did not say they did not have faith but what he was saying is they did not have much. After all they did wake Him up.

So what does He do? He shows them. I am going to calm this storm. This miracle communicated two things

1.Jesus has control over nature “In Him we live more and have our being”Acts 17:27-29,
And “all things were made through Him without Him nothing was made” John 1:3,
Col 1:16 He is God and He controls nature. So if you are going to give control to anybody does it make sense to give it over to the one who has control.

2. Jesus will calm the storms in your life.
Storms are… Serious illness. Accidents. Catastrophes. Financial problems. Death of a loved one. Loneliness. Divorce, no direction, Family problems, Friendship problems.

Lets draw some parallels between the storms of our lives and weather storms.

-They seem and are real bad when you are in them. Many times when we are going through a life storm we are scared, Like the disciples “We are gonna die”

Heb 12 talks about the Lords discipline and how we are not joyful in the pain but after it is over we realize it results in peace. Just like the storms of life after they are over we find a peace in the situation and appreciate that there are no storms

-You want shelter We will take any kind of shelter that will protect us from what is happening, even to the extent of doing something wrong or unethical.

Maybe your storm is..
financial and your shelter is being dishonest with the way you get or handle money.

relational or work related problem so you find shelter in drinking to escape the pain.

Direction in life so you find shelter in not making decisions and being lazy so you don’t have to face making a decision

A tragedy and you find shelter in blaming others and holding others responsible.
So what do we do? Psalm 143:8-10

-Evaluate the damage is costly and we can learn from it. After the storm is over we can learn and make the correct adjustments in life. Why are house by the beach on poles? What storm came into your life that you learned from the damage and now you are taking steps in spiritual growth to not let that happen again or prepare yourself so when it does happen again it does not have such a horrible impact.
James 1:2-4

“Sometimes the Lord calms the storm. Sometimes He lets the storm rage and calms his child”.
When we are faithless He is faithful He cannot deny Himself, 2 Tim 2:13 meaning Jesus will be who He is no matter what the circumstance. He said to them you have little faith but I am who I am and will calm this storm.

Their response
Vrs 27 “The men marveled”

Jesus controls nature and controls the storms in our lives. It may seem crazy but we have to give Jesus the wheel of our lives
