Psalm 1: Worldview Part 2

Verse 4-6 The Contrast between the Godly and ungodly

We learned that the Godly because they cling to the Word of God are like strong trees planted by rivers and bearing fruit, but…

Verse 4 “The Ungodly are not so” they are like a chaff which is blown away. Chaff-is the useless dry brittle part of the grain that is blown of the grain or separated at threshing.

This is heir worldview can be shattered and blown away.

C.H. Spurgeon says their views are …worthless, dead, unserviceable, without substance, and easily carried away. Here, also, mark their doom,

Types of non-believers (develop and shatter their world views)
They all have 2 Cor. 4:4 in common
1. Indifferent- I don’t know or I don’t care
2. Intellectual- I am too smart to have a crutch like God, proud
3. Religious- I am a good person
4. Spiritual-Believe in yourself, usually agnostic -unknown
5. Hedonist-pleasure is the most important thing
6. Atheist- no God

These worldviews are empty and will be blown away in the wind.
I believe there are common ways Christians respond to these world views

1. Make fun of, belittle and argue with these views.
2. Intimidated by so we clam up.
3. We buy into and believe the worldview that is being put forth.

So what should we do? We live in a culture in which in order to be effective we need to be prepared to deal with and meet the needs of these people in hopes that they trust Jesus.

Or we can ignore them and be Worldly Christians, Separatist Christians or Overzealous Understudied Christians.

So what did Jesus do? John 1:14 set up tent, came into culture, reached out to us. Remember religion is our attempt at God, but Jesus is God coming to us. Incarnation

Four ways that we can impact all these worldviews..

1. Gospel centered: Remember its about Jesus, its not my theology, or that I am right etc.
2. Strategically informed: Know the culture around you so you can speak into it.
3. Wisely prophetic: Speak, To Jesus… pray about using your words in way that will benefit. Speak to others
4. Creatively redemptive: Do, faith in action has an impact on people. Be there, all those worldviews discussed before will all have trouble and will need you.

This is hard work because it is relational ministry, it is befriending people and learning about them and their lives, it is realizing that there is some danger in getting close to people who have a Godless worldview because you will face temptation and be in situations that may suggest you compromise your values. You may also face criticism from fellow Christians (like Jesus did).

Vrs. 5 is the why we would do this
5a Their worldview will not help them in judgment

A person cannot stand in the judgment when they have the wrong answer. Ex, I don’t care, I am smart, I am good, I am spiritual, I was having fun, there is nothing more then what we see.

5b Truth be told, if they do not trust Christ they will not spend eternity with us.

One purpose for us to be here on earth is to be that light to non-Christians, and although they may be brutal, unloving and mocking. Jesus’ call for us is love and serve them so that they may come to know Jesus.

This is called Incarnational ministry

Vrs 6 is the comfort, the Lord is in control, we don’t need to stress
6a A sweet encouragement to the tired people of God.

6b Ungodly’s worldview of pleasure, of pride, of unbelief, of profanity, of persecution, of procrastinating, of self-deception, etc.: all these shall come to an end.
This Godless worldview will come to an end
